Tots 2 Teens Sessions in October Half Term 2022

Broadland District Council are now taking bookings for their Tots2Teens activities taking place in the October half term. Details of planned sessions can be found here.  

Big Norfolk Holiday Fun funded places are not available in half term, however families who are in receipt of means-tested benefits from Broadland District Council are entitled to a 50% reduction on the promoted cost of the sessions. Families need to get in touch with us on 01603 430525 or leisure@southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk to get this discount applied to their membership. A healthy snack will be provided for all children during October half-term, they do each need to bring a packed lunch and refillable drink bottle with them.

North Norfolk Macmillan Cancer Support Centre (NNMCSC)

On Friday September 30th NNMCSC are holding a Macmillan Coffee morning open to the public. They are also starting a new General Cancer Support Group which is open to anyone affected by cancer and is an informal setting for people to meet others locally who have had similar experiences and to talk. The Coffee morning on the 30th September is an opportunity for anyone to come along (general community, people affected by cancer, staff) and enjoy some coffee/cake whilst socialising and exploring the Support Centre here at the North Norfolk Macmillan Centre and other services available.

​

In October we will also be establishing our first HOPE course. How to Overcome Problems Effectively (HOPE) is a 6 week course aimed at patients who have finished their cancer journey or are living with cancer to help them to rediscover inner strengths to help them cope emotionally, psychologically and practically.

Vacancy for Parish Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer

Coltishall Parish Council is looking for a proactive Parish Clerk and RFO with excellent communication skills and good attention to detail to guide them. 

​

This role will involve arranging, publicising and attending all council meetings and issuing agendas and preparing minutes in line with statutory requirements.  Managing the finances, budgeting, VAT Claims, PAYE and preparing accounts for annual audit.  You will support the management of the council run areas including the play area, allotments, community orchard, open spaces, Great Hautbois Common, War Memorial and other council owned assets.  Coltishall Parish Council are working with the local primary school on a number of initiatives including a play area renovation and development of speed awareness signs so there are exciting opportunities for inclusive project work.

​

This position is mainly home based for 17 hours per week working flexibly (meetings are usually held the first Tuesday of the month). 

Salary would be between Scale Points 19 – 24 (currently £25,481 – 28,672 pro rota) depending on experience and qualifications.

The Council is a member of the Norfolk Pension Scheme and relevant training would be paid for by the Parish Council for the Parish Clerk to achieve the CiLCA qualification if required.

Tots 2 Teens Taster Day - Saturday 22nd May

Tots2Teens run holiday activities for children aged five years and upwards during all school holidays.  COVID safe sessions are held throughout the Broadland district in village halls, schools and community centres from Reedham to Reepham and in the fringe parishes of Hellesdon and Thorpe St Andrew.  Bookings are also open for the May half-term sessions – the full brochure and details of how to book can be found online at www.broadland.gov.uk/t2t

Bure Valley Path Circular Walks

Norfolk County Council’s Cycling and Walking team are working on a project funded by the Greater Norwich Growth Board through the Infrastructure Investment Fund to install the waymarking of five new circular walks and create promotional materials for the walks. These walks will all be starting from the Bure Valley Path, a 9 mile linear trail between Aylsham and Hoveton.  This project is due to be completed by March 2022 with sign installation due to take place during summer and autumn of 2021.

Parking Issues 

We are aware of issues regarding people parking on yellow lines in the village.  If you witness a parking infringement please report this to parking.operations@west-norfolk.gov.uk as soon as possible.  They have the power to issue Penalty Notice Tickets and manage this process.  However if you believe the vehicle is parked dangerously please report this to the Police by calling 101.

The Parish Council have been working with PC Lucas Ward, Cllr Jo Copplestone, The Commons Trust and Broadland District Council (BDC) and parishioners to address the issues regarding littering, dangerous parking, speeding and public order offences due to the public toilets being closed.  BDC have now placed x2 1100ltr bins on the common which will be emptied every Friday and aim to open the public toilets by Monday 22nd June (the latest) with hand sanitizing stations being placed outside.  PC Lucas Ward has confirmed that sporadic visits will be carried out (particularly during hot weather) to observe public order is maintained.  However we kindly request that you report issues regarding dangerous parking/blocked parking and public order offences directly to the police by calling them on 101.  If it is safe to do so, photographic evidence will help the police take action.

Norfolk Constabularly Newsletter

Norfolk Constabulary has issued its latest newsletter for parishes, including Coltishall, that are supported from Aylsham. In addition, it has reported that more than 100 people were arrested during the Norfolk Christmas drink drive campaign with almost 1000 people breathalysed. The month-long campaign, launched on 1 December 2017, targeted drivers getting behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Patrols and roadside checks were carried out with Norfolk having a 8.55% fail rate.
A total of 947 tests were carried out with 81 drivers providing positive readings. Of the 172 drug tests conducted 56 drivers failed.

This is the document that will ultimately guide how much development takes place in our community. Now is the time to express a view if you are concerned about new housing and infrastructure in Coltishall in future. Once the Plan is in place (by 2020), it will be very difficult to argue against the allocations it sets out. More information is available here and at www.gnlp.org.uk. This will operate on a 50/50 basis across the two parishes, starting with two months on Norwich Road in Horstead. The sign tells drivers their speed and asks them to slow down if necessary. It also records date, time and speed (but not identity). This information will be presented regularly to the two Parish Councils and published in The Marlpit. It will also be used to target police checks at speeding hotspots.

Mr Michael Spinks laid a Remembrance wreath at Coltishall War Memorial on behalf of Coltishall Parish Council this afternoon. Despite the inclement weather, many villagers attended the Church Service and marched to the Memorial led by Parade Master Bob Jennings and the Rev. Chris Engelsen. Local police closed off the High Street and also laid a wreath as did the Royal British Legion, Coltishall Brownies, the Coltishall & Horstead WI and The Marlpit community magazine.

The Marlpit is holding its 40th Birthday Celebration on Sunday October 15th from 6p-8pm at the Tithe Barn, Horstead. All are welcome but booking in advance by 5th October latest is essential to ensure that numbers are catered for. If ten electors seek an election by 11th September 2017 then one will be held. Otherwise, the Council will seek to co-opt three new members after that date as a vacancy already exists.
