Welcome to Coltishall

Coltishall is situated nine miles north east of Norwich on the River Bure, gateway to the Norfolk Broads. In addition to its beautiful river frontage, part of the Broads Authority, it has wide expanses of common land managed by the Coltishall Commons Management Trust, and much of the village itself is a conservation area.

The Parish Council

The Parish Council consists of up to 11 members who all live in or near Coltishall and Gt Hautbois and represent the parish on various matters.  We are effectively the third tier of local government below County and District Councils. We meet at 6.30 pm usually on the second Tuesday of the month at the Church Rooms, Rectory Road, Coltishall.

Norfolk Constabulary has issued its latest newsletter for parishes, including Coltishall, that are supported from Aylsham. In addition, it has reported that more than 100 people were arrested during the Norfolk Christmas drink drive campaign with almost 1000 people breathalysed. The month-long campaign, launched on 1 December 2017, targeted drivers getting behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Patrols and roadside checks were carried out with Norfolk having a 8.55% fail rate.
A total of 947 tests were carried out with 81 drivers providing positive readings. Of the 172 drug tests conducted 56 drivers failed.

Consultation on the Greater Norwich Local Plan (to 2036) has begun and will run until 15th March 2018. This is the document that will ultimately guide how much development takes place in our community. Now is the time to express a view if you are concerned about new housing and infrastructure in Coltishall in future. Once the Plan is in place (by 2020), it will be very difficult to argue against the allocations it sets out. More information is available here and at www.gnlp.org.uk. SAM2 mobile speed sign.

Coltishall and Horstead Parish Councils have taken ownership of a new SAM2 speed sign. This will operate on a 50/50 basis across the two parishes, starting with two months on Norwich Road in Horstead. The sign tells drivers their speed and asks them to slow down if necessary. It also records date, time and speed (but not identity). This information will be presented regularly to the two Parish Councils and published in The Marlpit. It will also be used to target police checks at speeding hotspots.
